Performer Application Information

The First Applcation Deadline for Performers is March 1, 2010.
The Second Application Deadline for Performers is April 1, 2010
The Final Application Deadline for Performers is April 15, 2010.

There will be two types of performers accepted for Flute Week 2010. You may apply for either type. However, only the best-qualified applicants will be accepted at the Presto level.

Presto Performer ($900 - includes more performing opportunities)
Applicants invited to attend as a "Presto" Performer will perform twice in masterclass for Jim, receive a private lesson with Jim, perform once in masterclass with Cathy Karoly, participate in a mock audition, attend all masterclasses and recitals, participate in all seminars and workshops, attend an off-campus event, and perform a recital piece during the week.

The registration fee at the Presto level is $900

Allegro Performer ($750 - due to time constraints, some performers will have fewer performing opportunities)
Applicants invited to attend as an "Allegro" Performer will perform twice in masterclass for Jim, receive a private lesson with Jim, attend all masterclasses and recitals, participate in all seminars and workshops, attend an off-campus event, and perform a recital piece during the week.

The registration fee at the Allegro level is $750

Acceptance Information
The number of performers is limited and acceptance to the class is competitive. Performers will be selected solely on the quality of their performance on their audition recording. If there are too many applicants at the "Presto" level, some may be invited to attend at the "Allegro" level. Those not invited to attend as a performer may be invited to attend as a full-week auditor.

Applications will be notified of their status by May 1, 2010.

Room & Board
Housing is available at the Colburn residences at a cost of $65 per night. Meals are not included. Participants should plan on spending about $25 a day for their meals. The Colburn School Cafe will be open for the duration of flute week, although the hours of operation have not been finalized as of yet.

The application fee is $20 if the application is received by March 1, 2010.

Qualified applicants will be accepted based solely on the quality of their performance on their audition CD. Once the class becomes full, qualified applications will be placed on a waiting list. Those qualified applicants placed on the waiting list will be accepted if and when cancellations occur.

Audition Recording
Include a recording with your application (only CD format will be accepted) of two contrasting, standard flute works that best display your playing. Accompaniment is necessary if the piece includes it, but solo works are also acceptable. In place of one flute work, two contrasting orchestral excerpts may be substituted. The recording should be recent; within the last year at most. Live recordings are acceptable. Non-edited performances are preferred. Please make sure the sound quality represents you accurately.

Also include a brief biography (1-2 paragraphs) with your application describing yourself and your musical accomplishments.

Deposit and Fees
Those selected to be performers will have to send in half the tuition amount to hold their place, due by May 15, 2010. The remaining balance of the performers fee and applicable housing fees will be due no later than June 15th, 2009.
